gSharkDown Download music on Ubuntu


gSharkDown is a GNOME desktop application for downloading and playing audio files from the grooveshark  service. It is based on the groove-dl library from George Stephanos.

1.- Find your artist or song

2.- find your song and clicking on the +


Before you configure the folder where you download, the song right click on the icon bar of the program preferences, and finally her song download.

1 – Add the repository

It’s easier than in previous ubuntu versions! Open a terminal and do:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bisigi/ppa && sudo apt-get update    

if the server doesn’t respond, just wait a few minutes and try again

2 - Install Themes

Then install themes: (this command install all themes. If you want to install only one theme, go look here)

sudo apt-get install bisigi-themes 
or click on apt://bisigi-themes



List of commands to install specific themes:


AquaDreams:                    sudo aptitude install aquadreams-theme
Ubuntu Sunrise:                sudo aptitude install  ubuntu-sunrise-theme

Select wallpaper resolution during installation

During the installation of certain themes a window will ask you to choose the resolution of your screen.
- 16/10: For the following resolutions: 1280×800 / 1440×900 / 1680×1050 / 1920×1200 / 2560×1600. For HD 16/9 screens:  1366×768 / 1920×1080,  use this option too
- 4/3: For the following resolutions: 800×600 / 1024×768 / 1280×1024  / 1600×1200


Clean uninstall of Ubuntu

To delete Ubuntu partition you will need a windows installation CD/DVD.After booting from CD/DVD go to the 'repair windows' section.There open the windows console and execute this command 

bootrec.exe /fixmbr

bootrec.exe /fixboot

then reboot the system.Format your Ubuntu partition with any windows filesystem.its complete...TA !!DA!!

'Steadyflow' Download Manager Gets Firefox Support through FlashGot


We recently posted an article about a new download manager in development for Ubuntu - 'Steadyflow'. The development is going on at  fast pace. The download manager have already got Firefox integration through FlashGot.

Please note that as of now Firefox integration can only be enabled  through development version of FlashGot - 1.2.2rc1. The version is not stable yet.

The Firefox integration works well with Steadyflow version 0.1 and upcoming version 0.1.5 which will soon land into the PPA as the packages are being built.

In other changes, the download manager got a new icon and help and preferences menu have beenunified into one. (upcoming version 0.1.5)

The most Popular Linux Desktop, Latest version : 3.0 (Released on April 6, 2011), Other major version : 2.3. it’s free and open source software, developed by GNOME community, developers around this planet. it’s based on GTK framework. Most of the Popular distros like Fedora, Ubuntu (not in 11.04) etc. uses GNOME as their default Window Manager.

KDE

Another Popular Desktop (free and released under LGPL), based on Qt framework.

Unity

a new desktop, Developed by Canonical, will be the default desktop for upcoming versions of Ubuntu. 

Music player open when selecting a file from places Ubuntu

In short this is the solution:
gedit ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

Find the line inode/directory= and either delete the whole line or add to front.

nautilus-folder-handler.desktop;

testing laptop motherboard

1. Laptop is used to carry from place to place…so people who travel a lot must think of the weight of the laptop.

2. Every battery has a lifetime. So going for a Laptop with hardly any battery backup is not suggested. Minimum of 45 minutes battery backup is very necessary. So while purchasing the secondhand laptop please keep in mind to check the laptop only on battery for minimum 30 minutes and also keep an eye on battery usage indicator.

3. Carry with yourself an audio, video & Blank CD/DVD so that u can check the audio section and video section of the laptop including the CD/DVD read/write test.

4. Run the scandisk utility available in all versions of windows and check for bad sector in hard disk.

5. Take with yourself any external device like thumb drive to test the USB port.

6. Take with yourself SD memory card to test Card Reader (If the option is available on the laptop)

7. Take any good floppy to test the floppy drive (Any how current Laptops are not coming with Floppy Drive)

8. Take an external headphone and microphone to test the external audio port.

9. Attach the laptop to the external monitor to check the external VGA port is working or not.

10. Open any word file and check all the keys are working or not.

11. Check for battery charging for 5 to 10 minutes and see the battery indicator is showing charging.

12. Press the window and the break keys on the keyboard and see the amount of RAM and CPU details.
Further chick the hardware option and then the Device manager to see all driver are installed or not. There should be no Exclamation mark.

13. Slide the LCD screen slowly on the hinges and check any flicker on the display if so there may be a problem on the connector cable driving the LCD circuit of the laptop.

14. Also check the Modem, Bluetooth & Wi-Fi Port if available on your laptop to be purchased (Do only if you know) I will be writing on these subject next.

15. Check the laptop minimum for 45 minutes to see whether laptop hangs or restarts or shutdowns.

16. See the Laptop User manual and Driver CD are there with the Laptop.

17. See that u get a laptop carry case, otherwise u have to purchase one.

18. If all the conditions meets out OK and within your budget just go for it.
